What is vehicle undercoating?
Vehicle undercoating is a process where a protective layer is applied to the underbody of a car. The layer acts as a barrier between the metal parts of the car and the elements that can cause rust and corrosion. It doesn't matter if it is car, van, truck or RV - we've sprayed all of them! We also use Corroseal premium treatment to prepare older vehicles for undercoating.
What exactly is rust and why is it so bad?
Rust is the chemical process of oxygen and water combining with iron (like the steel in your car, truck, van or SUV). When those elements find unprotected steel, they merge forming the brown, flakey material we call rust. Rust corrosion will eventually eat completely through your metal vehicle unless you stop rust.
Why is vehicle undercoating important?
The underbody of a car is one of the most vulnerable parts to rust and corrosion, as it is constantly exposed to moisture, salt, and other elements that can cause damage. Over time, rust can weaken the metal parts of the car and lead to structural damage. Vehicle undercoating helps to prevent this by creating a barrier that protects the metal parts from the elements.
What are the different types of vehicle undercoating?
There are two main types of vehicle undercoating: wax-based and rubberized. Wax-based undercoatings like Fluid Film or Surface Shield are thicker and more viscous, and provide great protection against moisture and salt, but have to be reapplied periodically. Rubberized undercoating is thinner and more flexible, and is better for providing a sound deadening effect - an ideal solution for a new vehicle. The product we use, Tectyl 2102 proved to be a fantastic option when the rust didn't have a chance to form yet.

How is vehicle undercoating applied?
Vehicle undercoating is applied by spraying the underbody of the vehicle with the protective coating. The underbody of the vehicle is thoroughly cleaned to remove any dirt, grime, and rust before the coating is applied. The coating is then allowed to dry completely before the vehicle is moved.
